A federal jury awarded the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville to pay former professor Gwenn Okruhlik $353,000 after she had complained about a hostile environment in her Middle East studies program.
As an assistant professor of political science, she had sued the school for sex bias, claiming her male colleagues had made discriminatory and sexually derogatory comments about her, and conspired to discredit her work.
While the jury found no evidence of gender bias, it did find the school denied her tenure in retaliation for complaining. The jury ordered the university to pay her ...
