Taking a 250-pound defensive end with the 11th pick in the 2002 draft was a risk, but that risk is paying off handsomely for the Colts. After spending most of training camp and the first half of the season adjusting to the size and nuances of the NFL as a situational pass rusher, Dwight Freeney has taken over as the team's starting right end.
There never has been any question about Freeney's speed and ability to rush the passer off the edge. At Syracuse, he tallied a school-record 17 1/2 sacks as a senior. But size and the ability to hold up against the run remain concerns with Freeney, who has bulked up a bit (he's listed at 268 now) since entering the NFL.
