Nearly 14 minutes remained in what would be a double-digit loss to Duke when UCLA called timeout because the five Bruins on the floor had lapsed into a paralysis of disorganization. Oh, boy--you didn't have to be a writer to appreciate that metaphor.

UCLA entered this month without a win of any kind. The Bruins lost their two exhibition games. They dropped the home opener to San Diego. They traveled to Indianapolis for the Wooden Tradition and, with two starters benched for being late to a film session, fell easily to Duke.

This is a familiar story.
