Tetu's National Rainbow Coalition candidate Wangari Maathai may have an easier time after the withdrawal of the Safina nominee from the race.

Mr F.T. Nyammo, who defected to Safina after losing the Narc nominations to Prof Maathai, the Green Belt Movement co-ordinator, wrote to Electoral Commission chairman Samuel Kivuitu on November 29 requesting that his name be deleted from the list of candidates.

His pulling out will make things easier for Prof Maathai, who is battling out with two other candidates. He had garnered 5,900 votes against Prof Maathai's 9,747.
