THE Ministry of Energy and Power Development has taken over the Rural Electrification Department from the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) to allow the country's sole power utility to concentrate on its commercialisation and privatisation, it was learnt this week.

A ZESA official who declined to be named said the department created last year to kick-start the government's ambitious programme to electrify the country's rural communities would from the beginning of next month come under the Ministry of Energy.
