PRAGUE, Dec 1 (CTK) - Given the composition of parliament, if Milos Zeman does not take part in the first round of presidential elections, Otakar Motejl has a real chance of being elected the head of state, Deputy Premier Pavel Rychetsky (Social Democrats, CSSD) told the Prima television station today.
However, he added that Premier Vladimir Spidla, the leader of the Social Democrats, would go and try to convince Zeman, his predecessor in the two posts, to take part in the first election.
Zeman, the winner of a presidential referendum of the Social Democrats, told CTK later today that he had not changed his mind and that he would not run in the first round.
Ombudsman Motejl only ended up in the Social Democrat referendum on the third place and he was even behind former justice minister Jaroslav Bures.
The Social Democrat Central Executive Committee will nominate the party candidate for the post on December 7.
If Zeman really refuses the first election, the body will be in a difficult situation, Rychetsky said.
