PRAGUE, Dec 1 (CTK) - Czechoslovakia, officially called the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (CSFR), only survived for six months after the June 1992 general elections.
The feuds, which accompanied CSFR since early 1990, led to a quick agreement of victorious parties on the demise of Czechoslovakia after the elections.
These are the main events between the 1992 general elections and Czechoslovakia's split:
6 June - The Civic Democratic Party (ODS) won elections in the Czech Republic and Vladimir Meciar's Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) in Slovakia. President Vaclav Havel empowers ODS leader Vaclav Klaus with forming the Czechoslovak cabinet.
8 June - The first meeting of the election winners in Brno where the two parties said that their ideas about the constitution largely differed. The ODS disagreed with the HZDS proposal to create an economic and defence community. "The federation is lost and according to the HZDS the joint state is lost, too," Klaus said after the talks.
17 June - Klaus announced that the ODS had nominated him to the post of Czech, not Czechoslovak, premier.
