NOVE VESELI, South Moravia, Dec 1 (CTK) - Former premier Milos Zeman has ruled out that he would take part in the first round of the forthcoming presidential elections, Zeman told CTK today.

He said that he would not take part in the meeting of the Social Democrat Central Executive Committee on December 7 where the presidential candidate is to be nominated by the party.

"It would not be good if I presented myself as the candidate and stressed my merits," Zeman told CTK today.

Zeman said that on Friday Premier Vladimir Spidla telephoned him with a view to convincing him to take part in the first round.

"I told him clearly that it is my habit to keep my word and fulfil what I promise," Zeman said.

Zeman said that he did not quite understand the necessity of entering the race in the first round. Those saying that not doing so was a sign of weakness are wrong, he added.
