ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
The team seems prepared to play Craig Counesll at third base. It had interest in free-agent 3B David Bell, but he signed with the Phillies. Counsell didn't play after August 8 because of a pinched nerve in his neck that caused weakness in Iris right arm. He had surgery to fuse two neck vertebrae in September and says his rehabilitation is going well. Counsell is working with a physical therapist three times a week, with the focus on weight training. He is able to swing a bat but will not be allowed to throw for a while. He expects to resume baseball activities after the new year and should be ready to compete by the start of spring training. ...
