Everyone's looking for a good deal this time of year. NHL bargains are on a different scale, of course, than what you might find while shopping for clothes or electronics. Salaries are so high, it seems ridiculous to call someone a bargain if he makes hundreds of thousands of dollars to play a game.
But bargains do exist. To qualify as an NHL bargain, a player must make less than $1 million per season. Just missing out on being declared bargains because of that criteria are a couple of this season's breakout stars: the Lightning's Martin St. Louis ($1 million) and the Wild's Marian Gaborik ($1,075,000).
