Women with a certain gene mutation who take the Pill for five or more years have a 33 per cent increased risk of getting breast cancer, according to a new study reports.
It is already known that women who inherit mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene have a 50 per cent to 80 per cent lifetime risk of developing breast cancer and the disease typically occurs before the age of 50.
Now researchers in America have found that among women with BRCA1 mutations, those who had taken the Pill for five or more years had a 33 per cent increase in the risk of breast cancer, compared with women who had never used oral contraceptives.
