Setterfield's first novel, the gothic mystery The Thirteenth Tale, inspired a 10-day auction that resulted in huge advances worldwide, including $1 million in the U.S. In a prepub interview for Barnes & Noble (B&N is launching its Recommends Program with her book), Setterfield said: "Of course I'm very happy with how it all seems to be going ... but nobody has bought a copy yet.... the teal acid test will be September when it gets into the shops."
