A tenured professor of criminal justice at Sam Houston State University TX is suing the college and a dean for discrimination during her pregnancy, resulting in a demotion and lower salary.
Dr. Laura Myers accused Richard West, dean and director of the college of criminal justice, of discrimination based on her gender and pregnancy.
During her pregnancy, the complaint says, she was referred to as "Mama" by male administrators and subjected to derogatory terms. When she returned to work two months after delivering, she was demoted from assistant dean to director of research, and her pay was cut from $77,000 to $56,000.
