Jayapura, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - A separatist group of local people in Papua province commemorated the annual, self-proclaimed Papua independence day on Sunday in a very modest way hoisting its "Morning Star" flag.
The commemoration was held at the residence of the late Papua Presidium Council (PDP) chairman Theys Hiyo Eluay who was killed on November 11, 2001.
During the celebration, priest Herman Awom delivered PDP's deputy chief Tom Beanal's written speech.
The government has banned the hoisting of the morning star flag in official government offices and public places.
The morning star flag hoisted at the residence of the late Eluay was accompanied with the raising the official Indonesian red-and-white flag on the same mask.
