Kupang, E. Nusa Tenggara, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - President Megawati Soekarnoputri has agreed to provide financial allowance to former members of the East Timor regional legislature (DPRD).

The monthly allowance amounting to Rp 1,5 million (about US$ 165) will be made available for two and half years (30 months).

The decision to that effect is contained in the Presidential Decision (Kepres) Number 50/2002 and has been followed up through a joint decision of the Ministries of Home Affairs and Finance.

Head of the Social Aid Bureau, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, Stanis Tefa, said here Sunday that the financial allowance would be made available to former members of the East Timor regional legislature (DPRD) who had opted to be Indonesian citizen and had been domiciled in Indonesian territory so far.

As for former East Timor DPRD members who have died, the financial allowance will be presented to their heirs such as wife or children, Stanis Tefa said.
