Jakarta, Dec. 1 (ANTARA)-- The Indonesian government has been called upon to be firm in prohibiting the planned Independence Day celebrations in both Papua and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) which falls respectively on first and fourth of December.
Both the Indonesian National Defence (TNI) and police forces stationed in those two areas should be convinced in that they will not hesitate to taking drastic measures against those trying to defy the State's rule of law.
This was stated by Dr. Salim Said, a noted military analyst, in an interview with ANTARA here Sunday morning.
Earlier, President Megawati Soekarnoputri and National Defence Forces (TNI) Commander General Endriartono Soetarto had respectively issued a warning against any celebration the so-called independence day.
According to Salim Said, the TNI and police authorities in those two provinces have been prepared to secure the two provinces provided there is clear government stance and policy against those separatist elements.
