Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said today in Quito that a revolution against poverty and social inequality is starting in Latin America.
"This is the time of the people. I believe this is the time of a great revolution; a great revolution is starting," Chavez told Ecuavisa television station.
The Venezuelan leader is in Ecuador attending the inaugural ceremonies of The Chapel of Man, a great art museum conceived by the late Ecuadoran painter Oswaldo Guayasamin.
Chavez said that the revolution that believes in the works in the region "will end, in around 2022 or 2030, in a more just and egalitarian Latin America". The head of state seemed so convinced of what he was saying that he even bet his "life and soul", predicting change in the region.
Chavez's remarks come at a time when there are conjectures about the possible creation of a left-wing South American axis, comprising the Venezuelan leader and the presidents-elect of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, and Ecuador, Lucio Gutierrez.
