Prishtina [Pristina], 30 November: LPD [Movement for Democratic Progress] Chairman Jonuz Musliu today accused Serbian Deputy Prime Minister [Nebojsa Covic] of igniting a new conflict in the Presheve [Presevo] Valley [southern Serbia].
Musliu's accusations came after the Serbian deputy prime minister, who is also the Serbian government coordinator for the Presheve Valley, led special police forces in their campaign to remove Albanian national flags in a number of villages in the Bujanoc [Bujanovac] municipality.
The incident that caused the most irritation among Albanians was the removal of the flag in the village of Koncul [Konculj], where the UCPMB [Liberation Army for Presevo, Medvedja, and Bujanovac] general headquarters was based for several months during the war.
The LPD's Musliu told KosovaLive that the region's Albanians were ready to defend their national values. He said that the ban on using the national flag violated internationally recognized rights. Therefore, what the Serbs were doing in the Presheve Valley, he said, could re-ignite the ethnic conflict.
"The Albanians have fought and shed their blood to advance their national rights, which were being abused by the Serbian regime headed by dictator [Slobodan] Milosevic.
