TOKYO, Dec 2 Asia Pulse - The Japan Book Publishers Association have sent a letter to Yokohama City Mayor Hiroshi Nakada asking him to stop public libraries from allowing users to make photocopies of library books on their own.
Yokohama's policy on letting people make photocopies of books "poses problems in view of the copyright law," says an official at the association, which consists of about 500 publishers.
Copyright law permits a user to make copies of one part of a book at libraries, but only on the condition that library staff oversee the copying. This is to ensure that users do not copy the entire book.
