TOKYO, Dec 2 Asia Pulse - Yoshifumi Nishikawa, president of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. (TSE:8318), and Masashi Teranishi, president of UFJ Bank, yesterday defended themselves against criticism that major banks, including theirs, have deliberately been slow in cleaning up their bad loans.
Speaking on a TV show, Nishikawa said that the bank has never attempted to postpone the disposal of bad loans, so as not to hurt its bottom line.
