MANILA, Dec 2 Asia Pulse - Police as well as Philippine Marines will be beefing up security at the different embassies in the country as part of the security measures that have been installed in the wake of the closure of the Australian and Canadian embassies due to terrorist threats.
This was the result of Friday night's meeting of government officials with the diplomatic corps at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), which was conducted with the intention to map out security measures for the different embassies.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Blas Ople, who was present at the meeting, expressed confidence that the diplomats have been reassured of the safety of their officials and staff.
"The meeting with the diplomatic corps that I called succeeded in easing the burden of anxiety on the part of the diplomatic corps after the government showed capability to thwart security threats," Ople said.
During the meeting, police and defense officials said that they will be bringing in more personnel to intensify security at the different foreign embassies and consulates, including threats," Ople said.
"They (diplomats) expressed satisfaction with the security plan that have been unveiled by PNP (Philippine National Police) and AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines)," Ople said.
