TAIPEI, Dec 2 Asia Pulse - Taiwan aviation authorities are actively preparing for a series of aviation security inspections to be carried out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2004 although the island isn't an ICAO member state, a Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) official said.
The ICAO decided at its 2001 general assembly to carry out a global flight safety inspection plan starting from 2004, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
According to the official, the ICAO is expected to solicit U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) experts to conduct the planned aviation security investigation on Taiwan's airlines operating international flights.
Noting that ICAO inspection items are somewhat different from those set forth by the FAA, the official pointed out that in addition to civil aviation-related legal systems, flight safety inspection manpower, as well as personnel training programs and relevant records, the ICAO will focus its inspection work on airport safety facilities.
