SYDNEY, Dec 2 Asia Pulse - The Australian dollar opened the new week marginally higher but price action was limited on Friday night with thin trade following the US Thanksgiving holiday.
At 0700 AEDT, the Australian dollar was worth $US0.5605/10 compared with 0.5604/09 at Friday's close.
Thin volume on Friday following the US Thanksgiving holiday provided little impetus for traders to take new positions on global currency markets.
This coupled with only a half-day trading session in the US meant the Australian dollar traded in a tight range.
The local currency slipped under $US0.5600 in European trade after bouncing back during the local session as the market swung its support behind the unit.
On the cross rates the Australian dollar was firmer against the euro and yen, but weaker against the New Zealand dollar and British pound.
