THE KIDS in the village are swarming up and down my road tonight, setting the dogs barking. I turn on the porch light and send one couple, very drunk, back into the bushes. I don't want to be mean to them, but I am trying to work out in my cabin overlooking the vegetable garden and compost heap. The pony, who is locked up so he won't founder, started galloping up and down the fenceline when I switched on the light. But he gave up quite quickly because I am hard-hearted and ignore him.

But then the kids came out of the bushes again, and then their mates in a car stopped to yahoo, and what they are doing and why is so interesting I want to go out and interview ...
