The Celebrity God.(Poem)

 
THE CELEBRITY GOD 
 
   In an alternative world like ours, which we know 
   must exist, given that the universe 
   is infinite and contains infinite 
   possibility, God has allowed one 
   of His scientists to prove that He is real. 
 
   Like a fugitive who has been tracked down 
   by a persistent detective, or like 
   a famed recluse whose children have released 
   a memoir, He fears now that it has been 
   a mistake. So long as He did not reveal 
 
   His whereabouts, there was no requirement 
   for accountability; He became 
   a public figure, once the mystery 
   was solved and His address was known, and soon 
   invitations were in the mail. He came to feel 
 
   obliged to explain himself, and to make 
   personal appearances at churches, 
   stadiums and shopping malls. He was hence 
   a celebrity, and began His own 
   TV shows and newspaper columns in which to deal 
 
   out wisdom. His once unknowable face 
   beamed down from billboards. And people then would 
   question ...
