ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2002
Concurrent Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:CCUR), a pioneer and leading provider of digital video solutions on demand, today announced that its MediaHawk(R) Video Server has been chosen by China Netcom Co. Ltd. - NingBo Branch to deliver Video-On-Demand (VOD) services to China Netcom - NingBo customers. The system will reach a total of 38,000 digital subscribers over an IP-based transport network.
In the China Netcom application, interactive, broadcast-quality VOD is delivered directly to China Netcom - NingBo's residential subscribers' IP-network connected set-top box or personal computers in their homes. This service is offered as a part of China Netcom's broadband Internet offering and is powered by Concurrent's industry-leading MediaHawk Video Server. Subscribers have on-demand access to more than 100 hours of content, including both Hollywood and locally produced movies, television program libraries, music videos, and documentary and educational short subjects.
In addition, China Netcom - NingBo supports a hospitality application. The hospitality application, also enabled by Concurrent's MediaHawk, works in much the same way. Newly released movies can be ordered in the hotel guest room and are delivered to the room's television via an IP-network connected set-top box.
Mr. Feng JianQuan, general manager of China Netcom, said, "We chose Concurrent because they have many successful deployments in China and a local office to serve our needs. With Concurrent's proven VOD technology and successful commercial deployment experience, we can focus on providing more end-to-end VOD solutions to our residential and hospitality customers."
"Working with China Netcom further reinforces Concurrent's commanding, already well-established presence in China," said Del Kunert, vice president of International Marketing and Business Development, Concurrent. "China Netcom selected Concurrent because of our technology and corporate capabilities and our leadership position in VOD deployments in China. In addition, the excellent reputation earned over the years by our local office in Beijing allows Concurrent to provide the quality of service and technological innovations expected by China Netcom."
