The Gulf interconnection grid is delayed once again as an update of the first study is being undertaken which will be completed in mid-2003. The interconnection project is now being scheduled for implementation between 2004 and 2010, official sources said.

The GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) is planning to update an earlier study undertaken, and is in the process of hiring consultants to carry out a techno-economic analysis and to draw up an interconnection agreement and an implementation strategy, said Mohammed Al Zarah, chief executive of the Dammam-based GCCIA.
