SURABAYA, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Indonesia's ailing woodworking industry is set to be revitalized after the government decided to implement a woodworking industry revitalization agency.
Speaking to the press after opening a national consultative conference of the Indonesian Sawmill and Woodworking Industries Association (ISA) in Surabaya Thursday, Industry and Trade Minister Rini Soewandhi said the formation of the revitalization agency will flow from cooperation between her ministry and the forestry ministry.
The agency will take care of the supply of wood for ISA members and discuss various problems faced by the woodworking industry, she said.
Rini also admitted that Indonesia's foreign exchange earnings from the export of processed wooden products had declined to 40 per cent, whereas prior to the crisis the industry contributed US$8 billion in foreign exchange earnings.
