SYDNEY, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Publicly-listed message technology company Pocketmail Group Ltd (ASX:PKT) will shut down its Australian technical support operation in the next two months, but has flagged minimal staff cuts.
The company also declined to comment on the long-term future of its Sydney head office, as it shifted its focus to its key market, the United States.
The group Thursday reported negative cashflow of $A500,000 ($US276,800) for the first quarter of 2002/03, leaving the company with cash reserves of just $A159,000 ($US88,022).
On Wednesday, Pocketmail revealed plans to close its Network Operation centre in Sydney by the end of 2002, after it reported a A$6.7 million loss for 2001/02, from a loss of A$14.5 million the previous year.
The company said it would handle all future customer relations, including calls from its 8,000 Australian subscribers, from its US call centre in San Diego.
The company said it had about 32,000 subscribers in the US.
