THE Provisional IRA last night severed its contact with the international decommissioning body to pile pressure on the unionists to make further concessions in the peace process.

The republicans were left reeling after Tony Blair ordered the IRA to disarm in his most blunt demands yet to Northern Ireland's men of violence.

Two weeks ago, the Prime Minister told the Provos they had reached "the crunch time" and that if republicans wanted to remain in the political process the IRA must disband.
