GLAMOROUS round-the-world yachtswoman Emma Richards must be glad to see the back of Gartmore, former sponsor of her boat. Days before she set off on her latest global race the yacht broke down while being used for corporate entertainment arranged by the fund manager.

After getting a tow into port and dispatching Gartmore's guests, Emma fixed the problem. But she must be hoping the boat's new sponsor, printer Pindar, is less fond of such jollies.

FOR years, headquarters staff at Abbey National included a dedicated letter writer to answer inquiries sent to Sherlock Holmes, w ho was said to have lived on the premises at 221B Baker Street. These included requests for help in filling in credit card application forms and even the odd Valentine card.
