Japan's Original Position on FTAs By the time this magazine is published, the Japan Singapore Economic Partnership Agreement (JSEPA) will have gone into effect. This is the first free trade agreement (FTA) Japan has ever been engaged in. Of course there was a reason why Japan had not been involved in any FTAs.
