OVERVIEW:
The Australian housing market appears to have run out of puff after its recent strong upward trend.
Economists said investors rather than owner occupiers seem to be propping up the market.
They also noted that investor approvals seem to indicate a growing housing market bubble.
Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show that the finance of construction of new dwellings slumped 12.6 per cent in August after a 9.2 per cent jump in July.
The ABS said housing finance slipped 0.7 per cent in August after a 1.6 per cent fall in the previous month.
OUTLOOK:
Economists said that investors are the ones responsible for the sharp building approvals increase.
