OVERVIEW:
A domestic slowdown in the Australian retail sector may be on the way after a feeble peformance over the last two months, according to economists.
Australian retail trade edged up 0.2 per cent, seasonally adjusted, in August after a 0.2 per cent fall in the previous month, underpinned by a rise in department store sales.
In August, department store sales were up four per cent after a 12 per cent slide in July.
Other positive factors included a 4.3 per cent increase in clothing and soft good retailing and a 4.1...
