SYDNEY, Oct 31 Asia Pulse - Westpac Banking Corp Ltd's (ASX:WBC) shares leapt nearly four per cent today after it unveiled a record $A2.192 billion ($US1.21 billion) net profit and painted an upbeat picture of future growth.
Westpac forecast earnings per share growth (EPS) of between seven and nine per cent in 2003 after reporting a 15 per cent rise in net profit for 2001/02.
The bank's shares climbed 53 cents to close at $A14.20 ($US7.83).
While analysts welcomed the result, Westpac's EPS expectations were a little below the 10 per cent EPS growth forecast and $A2.322...
