SC: Corporate governance focuses on self-regulation.

THE global trend in corporate governance has changed its focus and priorities to self- and market regulation from the emphasis on strong regulatory framework, said Securities Commission (SC) director for market policy and development, Dr Nik Ramlah Nik Mahmood.

"In the process of seeking the right balance, recent massive corporate failures due largely to the failure in corporate governance practices have brought us back to a greater dependence on strong and possibly onerous regulation as indicated by the new regulatory efforts in the US such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act," she said.
