Here we go again. Yet another variant of an already existing model. Ford has introduced its seventh variant of the Ikon portfolio recently. Apparently, this time performance at lower cost is the theme. The Ford Ikon 1.6EXi, the latest model costing Rs 5,97,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), is priced lesser than its earlier versions 1.6ZXi (Rs 6,37,015) and 1.6SXi (Rs 7,28,015), while it is at par in performance. David Friedman, managing director and president of Ford India, sounded optimistic about increasing his company's market share in the mid-sized car market with the help of the new variant. "Anywhere near 25 per cent of the market share," he said, when asked about the overall target that Ikon series would aim at. His optimism stems from the fact that 1.6EXi has a defined target of the younger corporate segment and selling on 'performance at lower price' agenda.
