UNRESOLVED NPLS: Bad loans still plague the system

Five years after the financial crisis, the Thai banking system is still plagued by the chronic problem of unresolved non-performing loans, which stood at Bt1.04 trillion, or about half of total NPLs of Bt1.97 trillion, at the end of June.

According to the Bank of Thailand (BOT), the remaining Bt0.93 trillion represents resolved NPLs but they are still included in the official NPL figures while they are subject to agency enforcement, legal action or debt-restructuring pending interest payment.
