70 jobs will go at Philip's microchips plant in Albuquerque, which will close for two weeks to save costs still further. The demand for chips for mobile phones has fallen and the US plant is one of the most important of Philip's facilities that manufactures this type of chip. The lay offs will reduce the plant's workforce to around 600 and bring to around 300 the number of job cuts that have been made at the unit over the last 18 months. No new cuts are expected to …
