Fukuoka girl's death linked to delay in meeting

A 9-year-old girl taken hostage in Nijomachi, Fukuoka Prefecture, was killed after the expiry of a police deadline for a meeting between the abductor and his estranged wife and daughter, according to sources.

Police also may face criticism for their actions as they reportedly learned at an early stage of the hostage incident that the alleged hostage taker had injured the girl, the sources said.
