Moscow, 21 September: President Vladimir Putin has expressed confidence Russia and Latvia can build relations not worse than with European partners.

Meeting the head of the Latvian parliament's group for cooperation with Russia, Janis Jurkans, and State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Dmitriy Rogozin today, Putin said Russia and Latvia "can build relations not worse than Russia's contacts with East European countries and European partners".

Putin believes Russian-Latvian relations may be good despite the fact that Latvia is choosing its own route in the field of security and integration.
