The State Railway of Thailand wants to build a second inland container depot itself, without entering a joint venture.

Chairman Therdsak Setmanop said the board felt a joint investment would only delay the depot scheme, as the Public-Private Joint-Venture Law required a scheme worth more than one billion baht to gain cabinet approval.

A second ICD was likely to cost about 4.3 billion baht.

Mr Therdsak said once construction was finished, the depot scheme would come under the joint-venture law _ when a private company would be chosen to run the depot.
