Fresh-food markets to get facelift

The city administration will open three new shopping plazas as part of its drive to modernise fresh-food markets, Bangkok Governor Samak Sundaravej said yesterday.

The governor said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration wanted owners of the 151 private fresh-food markets in the city to lift hygiene standards to equal those of a shopping plaza.

He said the three new markets could serve as models for upgrading of the 151 private markets.
