Two eldest children. In a new take on Shakespeare, the offspring of Tan Sri C.M. Hashim and Sir Dr Kamil Mohamed Ariff speak to SHARIFAH AL-ATTAS as they prepare to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug 20.

No expense will be spared to mark the diamond jubilee of Datuk Mushir and Datuk Zubaidah, son and daughter of the late Sir Dr Kamil Mohamed Ariff and Tan Sri C.M. Hashim.

A spirit of selfless service has passed from one generation to another in these two families. The good doctor was a philanthropist, and member of the Federal Legislative Council instrumental to Malayan independence.

A businessman of note, C.M. Hashim was entrusted with the purchase and sale of property for the man who would become the country's first Prime Minister.

The doctor's son has been founder director of Bank Bumiputra; the only civilian Honorary Commander of the Royal Malayan Naval Volunteer Reserve; and is the first Malay elected Fellow of the U.K. Incorporated Society of Valuers & Auctioneers.

His energetic wife was Penang Women's Institute chairperson for three decades, and has been Penang Malay …
