Iraq calls for reforming UN Security Council's "work mechanism".

United Nations, 17 October: Iraq has called for reforming the work mechanism of the Security Council through restricting the use of the veto as a prelude to cancelling it. It also called for the need to adopt rules of procedure that guarantee transparency and justice and preserve the rights of nations.

Dr Muhammad al-Duri, Iraq's permanent representative to the international organization, delivered a speech at the 57th session of the UN General Assembly, which is discussing the work mechanism of the Security Council. In his speech, Al-Duri asserted the collective international responsibility of the Council as a UN organization. He also asserted the need to prevent the use of the Council as a tool for implementing the private policy of a certain country.
