Three people died Thursday in North Carolina as stormy weather pounded parts of the state Thursday, leaving thousands without power and closing schools in Columbus County.
The state Highway Patrol reported a possible tornado demolished a house in the Riegelwood community of Columbus County, killing two people inside the house.
"It appears to be from tornado damage," said Patty McQuillan, a Highway Patrol spokeswoman.
The Charlotte Observer also reported that one person was killed in a traffic accident in the region. Additional details were not immediately available.
