Nov. 15--HOWELL -- Omnipoint Communications Inc. has received preliminary approval from the township Zoning Board of Adjustment to build a 150-foot-high cell tower at the Ramtown Fire Company site -- providing a financial benefit to the fire company but sparking an outcry by residents over safety issues and lowered property values.

The board at its meeting Monday night voted 6-1 -- with board member Michael Sanclimenti opposed -- on a resolution to approve the applications. Augustine Anfuso, who chaired the meeting, said Tuesday that stipulations must be met by the developer, but details were not available.
