Strong export growth in the mainland, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Japan and South Korea for Hong Kong's electronics industry helped offset the equally strong declines in trade with the United States, the European Union and Taiwan in the first five months of the year.

The industry's exports reached HK$222 billion during the period, up 2 per cent year on year.

Exports last year fell 3 per cent, following 28 per cent growth the year before, according to Census and Statistics Department figures.

The mainland is by far the SAR's largest market for electronics products, absorbing 42 per cent of exports during the period. Exports to the mainland rose 18 per cent, offsetting a …
