Annual event helps raise awareness of the critical importance
of high quality after-school programs
Mayor Jim Hahn, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rhea Perlman, and local city education leaders gathered at STAPLES Center with more than 2,500 school children from after-school programs from throughout greater Los Angeles to officially kick off the national Lights On Afterschool! celebration today organized by the Afterschool Alliance. This annual event helps raise awareness of the critical importance of high quality after-school programs for children, their families, and their communities.
More than 5,000 after-school programs across the country are participating with local Lights On Afterschool! events to both celebrate existing programs and draw attention to the need for far more programs.…
