THE Government will try and balance the Budget again this year, even if some of the bigger EU countries can continue to run deficits, said the Finance Minister, Charlie McCreevy, yesterday.
He backed off an attack on France, Germany and Italy, arguing it was a 'pragmatic approach' to allow them more time to cut their deficits, which are close to breaching the 3pc limit allowed under the single currency rules.
